About Us

Goatacre Manor Care Centre is a comprehensively equipped private nursing home that is registered under the terms of the Care Standards Act 2000 with the Commission for Social Care Inspection and is a member of the Registered Nursing Home Association.

Background

Goatacre Manor Care Centre is owned by Mr and Mrs O'Dea and has provided quality care to the elderly for over twenty years.  Mrs O'Dea was a Registered Nurse on Part 1 of the Nursing & Midwifery Council Register until 2004. The Nurse Manager is a Registered Nurse on Part 1 of the Nursing & Midwifery Council, who has specialised in care of the elderly for seventeen years and holds an NVQ level 4 in Management (Registered Managers Award).  Reflecting its strong emphasis on training the home is registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council to provide adaptation training for qualified nurses from overseas.

Staff

Goatacre Manor Care Centre currently employs over fifty staff, five of whom are Directors, who comprise qualified nurses, trained carers, catering and housekeeping staff as well as activities, maintenance and administration staff.  In addition, appointed staff are trained as Fire Officer, First Aiders, Moving and Handling trainers, Infection Control and Health and Safety trainers.

Registration

Goatacre Manor Care Centre is registered to provide nursing care for forty-two male or female Residents over the age of 65, but may also provide care for up to three people aged 18 – 65 with physical disabilities and up to three people requiring terminal care, within the overall number.   All residents are assessed prior to admission to ensure that the home can provide the level of care needed and that the resident's needs are appropriate to the registration with the Commission for Social Care Inspection.

Goatacre Manor Care Centre has twenty-eight single rooms of generous proportions and six large companion rooms ideally suited for couples or those wishing for company in their room.

Requests for emergency admissions are evaluated, and may be accepted, with the submission of appropriate Care Plans and with an agreed time limit for the proposed resident’s stay.

Care

Families and friends are encouraged to join the Residents, Families and Friends Committee to participate in enhancing the residents quality of life.

Each resident is allocated a “Named Nurse”and a “Keyworker” who are responsible for writing a plan of care which is updated regularly. The resident and their family will be involved in the care planning as appropriate and a copy of the updated care plan provided for each review.  If required, each resident is also registered with a local General Practitioner on admission.  Should a resident require any specific therapeutic techniques, these can be arranged through their GP and will be provided by a qualified professional.

All staff are taught to preserve the dignity, individuality and privacy of residents within a warm and caring atmosphere and to provide a clean, comfortable and safe environment. The changing needs of residents are accommodated sensitively, whether such needs are medical, cultural, psychological, spiritual, emotional or social.

Goatacre Manor Care Centre ensures that every resident’s needs and values are respected regardless of religion, culture, race or ethnic origin, sexuality or sexual orientation, political affiliation, marital status, parenthood, disabilities or impairments. Goatacre Manor Care Centre respects each resident’s right to independence, privacy, dignity, fulfilment, the right to make informed choices and to take risks.

Activities

Should residents wish to take part, there is a programme of activities, which is designed to maintain mental alacrity, self-esteem and social interaction with others.

General Information

There is a selection of information held at Reception should anyone wish to make comments or suggestions.  These include a Service User’s Guide and information on the Homes procedure for handling complaints. The address and contact numbers for both the Commission for Social Care Inspection and the Registered Nursing Home Association are prominently displayed.  Also available is a suggestion box for comments and suggestions on any matter concerning the home.

Goatacre Manor Care Centre provides the best care possible for its residents and through its Quality Procedures monitors, reviews and updates its performance continually.  Goatacre Manor Care Centre is a member of the Registered Nursing Home Association which is recognised for its high standard of care of the elderly and the integrity of its members.
